Faithful.

Disclaimer : There will be cute photo's of babies in this picture that may melt your heart - prepare yourself.

I'm at Maria's!
I'm full of JOY
Why? Because God has His plan ( In their hearts, humans plan their course but the Lord directs His steps - Proverbs 16:9) And I've had the privilege of loving yet another batch of His wonderful children.

I have less than two weeks left in China. I can't quite believe I'm in the countdown period. However, I'm hugely distracted from the thought of saying goodbye because I'm busy running this preschool. The kids are very different here. Older, higher needs and less English, but none the less, they are truly beautiful and have so much love to give! We are having plenty of fun, discovering new words, singing, structured play. This week we are looking at Space, so much glitter and black paper is involved. Also, as i've said before, Maria's has a lot more itsy bitsy babies than at Hope, so my afternoon's have been spent snuggling these gorgeous babies!

Benji - 2 months

 Amber 6 months

John age 5

I named this blog post 'Faithful' because since my last post, every last bit of worry about the transfer to here has been taken away and every bit of God's goodness has been popped right into my heart. Praise Him with me! I'm also surrounded by wonderful people in my last few days in China who are truly inspirational and so loving!

Thank you for journeying with me this far!
I'm so excited to get home and share many stories properly! I'm unable to share a fair few of the things that have happened/specific details of children whilst in China!

Lots of love, Rose xxx

Change and Goodbyes (I'm not leaving yet though )

So a sudden change of events has meant I'm leaving Hope Foster Home to go on to Maria's Big House of Hope to be the pre school teacher there for the last two weeks of my trip. (this time has flown by). There hasn't been a pre school teacher there and so other members of staff have been covering. However, they are very busy with visa issues, so my boss is sending me to Luoyang. My goodbye process with these gorgeous kids who have stolen my heart therefore is happening now and it hurts!

If you pray, 2 things :

Please pray :
that my heart would be fully enthusiastic about these next two weeks - new kids, new ways etc
that i wouldn't cry in front of the children when i'm saying goodbyes here.
that i would let God pave out my steps cos its all been very rushed and uncertain for me.

Three weeks left in this beautiful country.
Three weeks to keep learning, loving and leaning on God more.

I miss home but i love here.
How on earth i will reconcile the two when i get home, i do not know!

Anyways, Much love,
Read John 15 - like all the time. Abide in His love.

A big house, An Aquarium and An Adorable little boy!

Hello everyone!

I can't quite believe I've spent a month here! - Time flies!

- At the start of the trip i was planning on doing weekly updates. However, this trip is very different to the last. I'm very comfortable in China. Things aren't new, different or challenging because i've been here before. I have a specific role this time, which is fairly normal and routinely, so life is mostly calm and the days are filled with doing my favourite thing : teaching beautiful kiddies and holding them as much as i like!

However, many exciting trips and moments have happened since my last detailed update on life at Hope. I wanted to share a few trips and stories with you all.

1) Maria's Big House of Hope

The Foster home that i am at is part of a bigger charity called "Show Hope" - a huge advocacy and adoption charity based in the states. They have special care centres for children who are sent needing palliative care. As i've previously said, most children are in need of major surgery, but it is often correctable and these 'dying children' are often saved. The biggest centre is Maria's, named after the daughter of the Chapman family who run the charity. She was adopted from China but tragically past away. ( read all about the Chapman's story in 'Choosing to See' by Mary Beth Chapman). Due to the link between the homes, Jordan and I got to visit Maria's for a long weekend. This was unbelievably exciting for me because Mary Beth's book about this place is one of the ways in which God ignited my love for China's abandoned children.

Here is a picture of the Big blue house.

Maria's has beds for approx. 150 babies - 1 nanny to 3 kids. The children have a range of disabilities, unlike Hope where the special focus is heart/bowel/cleft lip/clubbed limbs. They also have many tiny babies. One of my aims was to find the smallest baby i could and hold it! - the challenge was complete when i stumbled across a baby girl ( 2 month year old premie).

I also made friends with a gorgeous boy called John, who was brought to Maria's only 2 weeks previous to my trip. He loved cuddles, smiling and 'row row your boat'

The Martin family also live at Maria's. - Dr Steve is the permanent Doctor on site and covers all the other centres too. I can't post a picture of their family, but I'm so grateful for my time getting to know them. Laura (the mum) was such a blessing to me! Chatted about all things China and life in general.
And she is basically wonder woman. Living in a different country and homeschooling 6 kids!

Last thing about this trip. (there is so much more to tell). An unexpected visitor appeared, after we worked out he was only half an hour away by bullet train. Extra happy time seeing Jamie love on the kids, and stealing an extra unplanned day together was so great.

2) Beijing Aquarium.

The preschool classes are doing themed weeks over the summer months. This past week we did 'Under the Sea'. This has been heaps of fun. I found myself trawling pintrest for sea related crafts. We covered : glitter fish, paper plate jelly fish, swirly seahorses and hand print crabs! On the last day (Friday just gone) we took the morning pre school classes to the Beijing Aquarium. My buddy for the day was Wen Hui - he's 18 months and ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. are you allowed to have favourites?! The kiddos loved the bus ride just as much as the fish and sharks. Wen hui slept both ways after being excited for the first half an hour. Enjoy his cuteness and some pictures of us all on the bus and in the aquarium. (p.s it is SO tough to get photos of moving babies in a dark aquarium!)
Wen Hui and Rosey

He was a bit unsure to start with about the bus!

Dong Wei - the oldest kid at Hope loved the whole thing!

  Sleepy baba so cute!!!

There is a turtle or something behind the glass...

3 ) Baby Tate

I may cry as i write this.
This is Tate. He's two, but he's not a 'terrible two'. He is the cuddle monster, the podgiest baby i have ever met and he smiles SO much. He's also recently started taking his first steps, but i think his belly holds him back...
Sadly, the organisation that 'own him' as such, are taking him away from us on Tuesday and this breaks my heart! He loves pre school, he loves his nannies and he is very settled here. I also took him for his first swim in the big pool this week and he loved it so much! We will all miss him so much when he leaves. Please pray that he would feel the love of Jesus all around him. This transition will be very distressing and traumatic for him.

that belly!

That's all for now,  thank you for reading! I miss home, a lot!

If you chat with God here are some praises and requests :)
Praise :
-He is so faithful - I've had mixed emotions over the past month but my one constant is Christ - rock solid foundation.
-He is able to do so much more than I hoped or expected -  the people I am meeting/resolving of any issues/ an incredible church/ so many healthy babies/ opportunities to speak with the nannies even though I barely speak Chinese!
-For Jordan and Jenni, the other two volunteers here
-For such wonderful friends back home, Sarah, Abbie, B&S Deare, Brentyface, Callum, Tom - your recent communications have meant so much.
-That Jamie and I get a week together this Thursday.

Requests :
-I've had pretty bad back pain, similar to last year. Most likely from picking up kids, often two at a time!
-Baby Tate.
-I get random days of home sickness and lonliness. This is also a praise cos my reliance on Abba has naturally grown so much because of this.
-Dong Wei, the oldest boy is due to have eye surgery, but there have been many complications.
-Please would you also pray for my poppa. He broke his leg pretty badly on holiday. Pray for healing, and less discomfort.

In Him, always.

Transformation

So a couple of weeks ago, i sent out a prayer request about precious Hannah.
She was weak, tiny, very distressed and poorly.
- Note how that was all past tense?

With much love, particularly from her morning ayi (nanny), the nurses and lots of cuddles from Jordan and I, Hannah is now a different baby.
Before she constantly cried, she hated being put down, she had a feeding tube in her nose, had a very high temperature and didn't sleep.
Now, she giggles and smiles pretty much all day long. Enjoys floor time, manages to drink a whole bottle of milk in record time and is flexing her fingers and thumbs (she has contractures) really well.

- Three wonderful ladies, my mummy, Bille Thaw and lil Rosie Thaw have also started sponsoring her - thank you so much!
Rosie also picked out some of her clothes that hadn't been worn for Hannah.
A. they fit perfectly
B. the Nanny went crazy, and has put her in a new dress/outfit every single day. She shouts Piao Liang! (beautiful in chinese) pointing at Hannah and her new outfits.

I've loved telling her that Jesus loves her and saying Wo ai ni Hannah! (I love you Hannah). She is just the most beautiful little thing, and I'm so glad i could share the power of prayer and love with you all.
Her Nanny likes to call Jordan and I Hannah's Jie Jie's  (older sisters) too!

Here's a couple before pictures and then lots of after pictures :

Her Ayi changed her into her new clothes straight away
blurry but she's so cute!

Thank you for praying for Hannah.
Sometimes you see the toddlers running around pre school, and forget they arrived at this home for palliative care! Just shows how awesome New Hope Foundation is.

Also, if you would like to sponsor one of the kids, follow this link :

Week One

1) The Journey

I managed all by myself to somehow get to Beijing without any major issues! I slept for most of the journey and also started and finished Heidi Baker's 'Compelled by love' (you HAVE to read it, it's beyond amazing). Jenni met me at the airport and filled me in on all things 'Hope foster home' on the way back.

2) Captial Church Beijing

9am, the morning I arrived I went straight to church with Jenni and Jordan (two of the other volunteers). What a way to start my trip, where all things should start and end, worshipping Jesus and committing the next three months to the Father. I'd visited this church last year and it was great, but i had a renewed sense of peace about this church. The theme of the morning was 'Abide in me' - how apt! When we are in Christ, our likeness to God is strengthened. His heart and His will flows through our hearts too. I'm expectant and excited for the Sunday am's to come!

3) Cuddling kids from last year!

The highlight of my Sunday was seeing the toddlers that i met last year. Most have been adopted or moved to other units, but two little boys, David and Steven are still there. ( We use the chinese names when we speak to them). Both have had their heart surgeries and are healthy, chubby and happy. They are starting to say my name but its more 'Wo Wo' than Rosey but we'll roll with that!

4) A normal day at Hope :

The days are long and packed full of time with the kids.

7am : Wake up breakfast
8am : 1st pre school class - more advanced, can speak and understand conversational English most of the time. We sing our ABC's and numbers. Learn colours and paint/colour in.
8.45 am : Discovery class - going over the basics, singing, playtime. Also been working on motor skills and development. e.g this week learning how to drink from a normal cup.
10 am : similar to the latter but younger kids.

Here's some pictures of the pre school classes.
<<<< This week we learnt the letter Y for 'Yo Yo'

2 afternoons a week we have baby classes - a few of them have acute separation anxiety because they're not used to the preschool yet, so please pray for peace and patience!

5) SWIMMING.

- 3 afternoons a week we take the older kids swimming. Robin and Joyce (the owners of the home) have a great pool in their garden.
Here's some pictures!

Most of them are basically water babies!
They absolutely love it, and its SO nice being able to jump in a cold pool!

6) Spare time :

This week, i've been getting over pretty strong jetlag. I'm wide awake by 7am which most of you know is very unlike me... and i've been waking up 2 or 3 times in the night. Naps have been very useful! The kids take a nap at lunch time so i've done a bit of scrap booking. Each child gets a book that tells there story. It includes pictures of their nannies, friends, photos, significant moments in their little lives.
One lunchtime we also cycled to the five day market to buy fruit thats so so cheap!

So there you have it!
I've really loved my first week!

Much love,
Rosey x
